Born and raised in San Francisco, CA. John Murray began his career in 1986 when he directed a sports fitness program for Cannon Kip Community Center. Located in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, the program’s focus was on working with under privileged, at-risk youth. Also during this early time, Murray consulted for a number of high school athletic programs in San Francisco providing strength and conditioning development instruction.
John Murray is also a founding member and contributor to Pro Hoop Strength, a web site based information resource comprised of current & former N.B.A. Strength & Conditioning Coaches, 2011-2015 and is a coaching consultant to Basic Athletic Measurement (BAM), the premier athletic testing company that provides the pre-draft testing for all of the N.B.A.’s draft combines, 2012 to present.
In addition, Murray has served as a personal strength & conditioning coach for numerous professional athletes, including NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, ATP and NHL players. Along with this experience, Murray coached with the Canadian Football League’s Sacramento Gold Miners and Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes.
